The PRSI Pool has awarded NKT a service agreement, which allows NKT to do turnkey repairs of offshore power cables owned by members of the pool. Among them is the energy company Equinor who issued the tender.

NKT Victoria at Sea
NKT has been awarded a four-year service agreement by the Norway-based PRSI Pool for offshore power cables, mainly in the North Sea. The agreement allows NKT to perform turnkey repairs for the approximately 6,000 kilometers of offshore power cables owned by the member companies. It covers a diverse range of cables, including direct current (DC) XLPE cables, mass impregnated cables, oil-filled cables, and alternating current (AC) cables.
- We have a longstanding and close relationship with Equinor, administrator of the PRSI Pool, and we are pleased to have been chosen again as the service provider for a wide variety of cable types. This is a testimony to our extensive experience within maintenance and repair, says Johan Thörnqvist, Head of Offshore Sales, Service in Sweden at NKT.
Ensuring the reliability and minimizing downtime of offshore power cables is key to an efficient and uninterrupted energy network. NKT’s preparedness for a swift and efficient repair is crucial. Even if rare, unplanned downtime can lead to significant financial losses. The remote and harsh subsea environment makes repair of cable systems challenging, and this is among NKT’s areas of expertise.
NKT will provide all needed equipment for the turnkey repairs. When performing repair on a power cable, NKT may use its cable-laying vessel, NKT Victoria, that is certified to run on biofuel, or their cable handling system.
The PRSI Pool includes 23 companies covering their offshore pipeline and power cable repair contingency via the pool. Among these are energy companies such as Equinor, Statnett, Aker BP, Shell and Neptune Energy. The agreement has options for two times two-year extension.
