Baltic 1, Germany

At a joint touch of a button, Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania‘s Prime Minister Erwin Sellering opened the first commercial offshore wind farm in Germany to which NKT has made a substantial contribution supplying infield and export cables on 2 May 2011. Since then, the 21 turbines of the Baltic 1 wind farm in the Baltic Sea have been producing enough power for some 50,000 households. In successfully implementing the highly sophisticated building project in the Baltic Sea, located 16 km to the north of the Darß/Zingst peninsula, Baltic 1 proves the competence and pioneering role of Germany in production of renewable alternative energies. NKT signed the contract for this turnkey cable project valued at some 100 million Euros in 2009.
