High voltage cables play a key role in the production and distribution of renewable energy across the world, which is essential to tackle the climate change. High voltage cables are being installed between countries and continents and also connect windfarms and oil platforms to the mainland. Extruded high voltage cables have an insulation system consisting of three layers of crosslinked polyethylene co-extruded on a metallic conductor. The electrical performance of the cable is dependent on e.g. the layer thicknesses. The dimensions of the insulation system are controlled by manually adjusting the output of the extruder for each layer.
There is a semifinished software that could help operators to keep dimensions in the extruder lines. This need to be finalized and implemented in production.
